The iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple's second most popular smartphone, has seen a modest price drop of just 5% in Vietnam a year after its launch. This is a stark contrast to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which experienced a 15% price decline in the same period. The 256GB model of the iPhone 17 Pro Max currently retails for around VND36 million (US$1,369), while the 16 Pro Max dropped to as low as VND29 million for the same storage capacity. This limited price movement is attributed to several factors, including the high costs of essential components such as DRAM memory chips and processors, according to Van Thi Ngoc Yen, Apple products category director at Di Dong Viet. She noted that there is no clear indication of when or how much prices may change, suggesting that Apple is carefully managing its pricing strategy. Despite the limited discounts, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has maintained steady sales, with retailers reporting demand remaining strong. It competes in the premium smartphone segment in Vietnam against the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, Oppo Find X9 Pro, and Vivo X300 Pro, but Apple's flagship model continues to dominate the market. The 256GB and 512GB storage versions are the most popular choices among buyers, offering the best value for money in terms of storage capacity. A Minh Tuan Mobile spokesperson highlighted that while price is a significant factor, buyers also prioritize features, camera performance, processing power, battery life, and durability when making their purchase decisions. This suggests that Apple's focus on delivering a premium experience, combined with its strategic pricing, is contributing to the iPhone 17 Pro Max's continued success in Vietnam.
